"I'll keep my distance, but you still catch my eye..."

If you're a fan of Wham!'s quintessential holiday hit, "Last Christmas", then you'll la-la-love this website. Now in its 3rd year, they've collected over 325 covers of "Last Christmas". I think I only knew of 2 before I checked out this site. Amazing... had no idea it was so popular!

Here's one of my favorite versions, of course:

Latest favorite

Lately, I can't get enough of Joshua Radin!

His latest album, "Simple Times", was released in stores earlier this week, but has been on iTunes for awhile now. According to my iTunes, I've played his new album a couple dozen times - it's that good, I promise! (And he's mellow enough, I bet older generations would enjoy him, too.)

If you remember, I featured another song of his, "Sky", here on Sprik Space back in June.

Yeah, he's pretty much awesome.

Check out his performance of "Today" on a recent episode of Ellen:

Tunesday

This week's tune is one of my favorite tracks off the new Coldplay album, Viva la Vida. Have a listen to "Lost!":

This week's tune is by Cary Brothers, and is featured on "The Last Kiss" Soundtrack (depressing movie, but great tunes). Have a listen to "Ride":

Tunesday this week is by an indie band out of San Diego, called Pinback. This addictive track is from their 2001 release, Blue Screen Life. Have a listen to "Penelope":

This week's tune is from Gavin Rossdale's new album, "WANDERlust". I've always been a fan of the band Bush, and Gavin, so far, has not disappointed me with his solo efforts. (I'm just going to ignore any reviews that compare his sound to Daughtry - who I can't stand.) Have a listen to: "Love Remains the Same".

Today's tune is from... (you guessed it) COLDPLAY. Here's another track from their new album, Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends, which finally drops today! Have a listen to "Viva La Vida":

OK, OK! I'll try to lay off the Coldplay posts for awhile, though I can't imagine there are any of you out there who aren't fans... YET!

Stating the obvious

While I'm not a lover of Kanye's... I can appreciate this video for at least two other reasons: 1. Chris Martin 2. Great cityscapes of Chicago. After listening to it a bazillion times, I must admit... it has grown on me!

An URGENT message from Chris Martin

(At least the way I imagine it in my head...)

Dearest Aimee,

Before you're first in line on Saturday to buy tickets to our Chicago show, I have to let you know that we've had a slight change in plans. We know how hard it would've been for you to have to wait until August 4th to see us at the United Center, so we're going to make it a little easier for you... Have any plans for Wednesday, July 23rd? In fact, we've had to move up several of our dates, so please be sure to tell all your friends. Thanks again for preordering the album on iTunes... I'll make sure you're able to download it first on Tuesday. Meanwhile, don't miss the opportunity to hear the album in its entirety on IHeartMusic... I know you're going to love it. You're the best groupie, EVER!

Forever yours,
Chris

Tunesday

Today's tune is from one of my favorite artists, Joshua Radin, and features another favorite, Ingrid Michaelson. This can be found on his latest EP, a 4-song collection - Unclear Sky, available exclusively at iTunes. The fountain of useless knowledge that I am, also wants to let you know that his BFF is none other than Zach Braff, and he used to date and perform with Sissy Spacek's daughter, Schuyler Fisk. Check out, "Sky":

Today's tune is from The Weepies. I love the way their voices meld together - very easy to listen to - yet, not easy-listening like Air Supply. Check out this track, "Gotta Have You", from their 2005 album, Say I Am You:

Isn't it ironic?

Don'tcha think...
that UPS is using a Postal Service song for their Whiteboard Commercials??

Brian pointed this out to me over the weekend...

Battle of the Viral Video AllStars

Love the new Weezer video for "Pork and Beans"! How many viral video allstars can you spot?

UPDATE: Just got back from vacation and discovered that Mindi posted this on Saturday... she's listed many of the allstars here.

This week's tune is my mom's favorite song, "Intergalactic" by the Beastie Boys. Seriously, it's her favorite... why else would it make an appearance on every single one of the mix tapes (CDs) I make for her?? ;) Yeah, I like to drive her crazy like that...

This week's tune comes from Jason Mraz's latest release - We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things. It's a duet with Colbie Calliat (another one of my favorites) called "Lucky". Have a listen...

LOVE it!

A love letter to my husband

Dear Brian,

Remember how much fun we had in 2006 when we went to the Coldplay concert at the United Center in Chicago? We had such a blast it didn't even matter that we were going to get home so late and have to go to work early the next day. Sure their opening act was beyond lame last time especially since he was drunk off his butt, but we let the excitement build for the main concert during every unintelligible minute of his set. We even enjoyed ourselves despite the loser in front of us who wouldn't stop playing with his phone and who smoked pot for the entire last half of the show... (maybe we enjoyed it more because of that??) Anyway, let's do it again... for your birthday!! Chris and the boys are coming back on August 4th. It'll be the perfect FHE activity for us, I promise!
TICKETS GO ON SALE JUNE 14th.

Love,
me

Tunesday

"I was like, 'Hey girl, can I get your number...'"

Seriously??

I think they were more entertaining when they looked like this.
But, I couldn't stand them then, either!

Notice their wearing of pegged jeans, vest, and overalls... the epitome of COOL!

(For my mother, and similar readers of this blog who have fallen in love with this new single - the group is New Kids on the Block.)

Tunesday

We're big Coldplay fans at our house! We saw their last tour here in Chicago, and I bet we'll be in attendance for their upcoming one. Here's the first track from their new album, Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends, which will be released in June. (Currently available as a free download on their website. Have a listen to "Violet Hill":
