Not only have I been getting quite a few e-mails lately, asking me to clarify personal vs. commercial use of my designs, but I’ve stumbled upon quite a few things online that make me feel the need to clarify…
Commercial use licenses must be purchased from me if you use any of my designs (Pattern Pieces, Just Because Prints, ABC Prints, etc.) in any way, shape, or form that is generating income.
For example:
- If you accept money for craft kits that include my designs in some way… you need to buy a commercial use license from me.
- If you accept money for one of my designs that you’ve re-created in vinyl, paint, etc…. you need to buy a commercial use license from me.
- If you accept money to design printables for a party… and in your design you incorporate one or more of my designs… you need to buy a commercial use license from me.
- If you accept money to design personal blogs and/or websites… and in your design you incorporate one or more of my designs… you need to buy a commercial use license from me.
Etcetera… It’s a simple request. It’s the right thing to do.

I love offering freebies on this site. However, seeing people blatantly profit off of my hard work, that I’ve put out there for free, makes me a little less inclined to continue what I’ve been doing, if you know what I mean.
I have a lot of fun designs planned for release in the next couple of months… I’m really excited about them! (And I want to stay passionate about this whole blogging business, too… it’s just hard when you feel ripped off, if you know what I mean.)
For those of you who have alerted me to commercial use of my designs, thank you, thank you.
If you have been using any of my designs commercially, no hard feelings (I can accept that it was an honest mistake)… just please contact me ASAP to purchase a Commercial License. Thank you!

Noooo! People are sooo ridiculous! I don't want to see your amazing designs go away! I have them all over my house and love them sooo much! I hope people step up and give you what you totally deserve if they use your designs.
Makes me that sad that people steal off the internet so easily and think it's okay.
This is something I will never understand about people. If you didn't create it yourself, don't sell it, copy it, etc. unless you ask for permission. And in your case- unless you buy a license. Thanks for the great reminder, and good for you for having the courage to say something. I love your designs, super fun, and thanks for putting them out there for us!
I bought a commercial use license just for use of the patterns! Sometimes I don't have the time/patience to create my own and yours are always so cool! ;) It is always better to be safe than sorry. It sucks you're finding so much misuse with your freebies. I too had to create an entire terms of use page, which I was trying to avoid. I felt like it was a big scolding to others, but as designers we need to make sure we cover our bases. Because yes, there are a few who abuse the creativity and generosity we put out there! And I have to say, I think your prices are very reasonable.
I think the examples you give above have been the clearest explanation you've given to date.
